Editorial: Good news, finally

For more than a year, it’s what we’ve all been waiting for. And now, it’s almost here.

Ever since COVID-19 restrictions were first put in place in Virginia in March 2020, one thing that has united all of us is a desire get beyond the need for restrictions, limits on social gatherings, social distancing and masking requirements, etc.

With rising vaccination numbers and falling cases, Virginians have now reached a point where this is possible. Some of those restrictions are due to be eased on Saturday. The maximum number of individuals permitted in a social gathering will be 100 people for indoor settings; 250 for outdoor settings (up from 50 and 100, respectively). Capacity for entertainment venues and recreational sporting events will also increase.
