Editorial: Good, bad, ugly

Political junkies in the Commonwealth have had a lot to absorb in the past few days.

The good, of course, is the selection of Virginia’s current U.S. Senator and former Governor Tim Kaine as the Democratic vice presidential candidate. He is so solid that the opponents will have a hard time making mud stick to him.

The bad: the Virginia Supreme Court’s reversal of Governor Terry McAuliffe’s blanket restoration of rights to felons who have completed their time. A reported 13,000 have registered to vote, meaning plenty of headaches for local registrars who will have to undo a lot of paperwork. Pass the aspirin.

The ugly. All on the national side. Where do we start? E-mail leaks regarding the Democratic National Committee? Donald Trump trying out “Crooked Kaine” as the insult for our senator? (It won’t stick.) The boos for Sen. Ted Cruz when he did not endorse Trump? The boos for Sen. Bernie Sanders when he endorsed Clinton?
