Editorial: Giving hope

Beginning with this week’s issue, the Gazette-Journal introduces its readers to “Spotlight on Hope,” a monthly feature of the Gloucester Resource Council. Many of us may be unfamiliar with the group, but we’re well aware of its accomplishments.

From the GUEST program for the county’s homeless (which is the focus of today’s column), to the Samaritan Group and the Gloucester Housing Partnership, to serving as the catalyst for the county’s first senior center, the GRC has been quietly working behind the scenes for the past 30+ years to improve the quality of life for everyone in the community, especially those most in need.

Community leaders representing churches, government agencies, civic organizations, businesses and others, meet once a month to work cooperatively on projects to help to Gloucester residents. Pretty soon, these projects begin to take on a life of their own and the Gloucester Resource Council is happy to step back and let that ...
