Editorial: Generosity

Let’s talk about community support for a moment. Individuals through direct donations or their wills; community groups through dedicated fundraising; churches and foundations within our borders; all have exhibited that support in a material way.

Dozens and dozens of scholarships worth tens of thousands of dollars are handed to many of their graduates along with their diplomas. Bake sales, fishing tournaments, and many other activities have fed this fountain of goodness.

The recipients take this support as they go out into the world, set their sights on higher goals, and complete their educations. Some will return to their hometowns. Some will settle in remote corners of the United States and across the globe. They will make their marks, and wherever they go, the support of their hometown will always be a part of their achievements.

The scholarships are a wonderful and remarkable element of this annual sendoff ritual. We live in a generous community.
