Editorial: Faithful

For well over 60 years—and we have not traced it to the beginning—a faith-oriented column, The Bible Speaks, has appeared in this newspaper.

Next week’s column will be the last.

For 52 years, that column has been the work of Dr. Lawrence W. Althouse of Dallas, Texas, who has related happenings of his own life and surroundings and the times he has lived in to bring the Scriptures to life.

He always sent a month’s worth of columns to his subscribers many weeks ahead when they were needed; he was an editor’s dream. 

At 87 years of age, Larry Althouse has decided to retire. He informs readers of his decision and his background in the final column, so we will leave that for him to tell you about in the May 25 paper.

For our part, we have learned much and enjoyed our association with this thoughtful and balanced minister of the Gospel. We will miss his words. We suspect that few columnists have achieved such a remarkable record of words and deeds and y...
