Editorial: Count your blessings

We certainly dodged a bullet from Hurricane Irma. Our friends to the south, especially those in Florida, weren’t so lucky.

This storm, of course, came right on the heels of Hurricane Harvey, which wrought unprecedented destruction to Houston, as well as other parts of Texas and Louisiana. And Hurricane Jose is right behind, curling around in the Atlantic and threatening the East Coast as well.

Yes, folks. Hurricane season is most definitely upon us.

It’s a perverse feeling to watch the projected track of a hurricane and root for it to go anywhere other than where you are—even if that other place may be a heavily populated area. Sure, we hope and pray that every major storm curls harmlessly back into the Atlantic and quietly dissipates. But at the same time we know that Mother Nature is not always so considerate.
