Editorial: Congratulations, Class of ’13

It’s a time of high expectations. Family and friends come from far and wide to share in the joy. But, in a wider sense, it is the entire community that comes together to celebrate the accomplishment of these young men and women as they graduate high school.

This past Saturday, 433 Gloucester High School students crossed the stage at William and Mary Hall to receive their diplomas. This Saturday, it’s the turn for some 89 Mathews High School students, as they hold their service in the school’s Harry M. Ward Auditorium.

These graduates represent our hope for the future. Some will head off to college, while others plan to stay closer to home, either to receive technical training, to explore their options in a community college setting or to go straight into the workforce. Still others have their sights set on a career in the military.
