On July 4, 2026, the United States will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Several localities have created their own VA250 committees to specifically commemorate Virginia’s contributions to gaining independence from the British. There is no state, or commonwealth, that feels more patriotic than Virginia. From being the leading producer of presidents to the home of the first permanent English settlers, Virginia has a very rich history that will be revisited all year long. Take the time to celebrate with your fellow Virginians with both statewide and local events during our semiquincentennial. Learn something new and perhaps reflect on how we can make our great commonwealth a better place for everyone. We have a few suggestions below for the local celebrations.
