Editorial: Be prepared

There’s nothing more frightening than knowing that a hurricane is coming your way.

Scratch that. What we should have said is … There’s nothing more frightening than knowing a hurricane is coming your way—and you’ve done nothing to prepare for it.

Hurricane season officially began yesterday, and all indications are that it might be a bad one, with a prediction of a dozen named storms this year. Whether it’s a bad year or a good one doesn’t really matter much. Even if there’s only one named hurricane all season, if that one is churning up the Chesapeake Bay and taking aim at Gloucester and Mathews counties, it’s probably going to be an awful year for you, your friends and neighbors.

The time to prepare for hurricane season isn’t when the news alert is scrolling along the bottom of your TV screen; the time is now.
