Editorial: A special time

This is a special time of year.

The uneven weather of the spring—warm days alternating with cold, sunny days preempted by frequent rain showers—is giving way to the balmy days of summer. People are plotting out their summer vacations … idyllic retreats to some tropical isle or, more realistic and closer to home, to the familiar beaches of the Outer Banks. And for the past few weeks students have been looking out the classroom window, daydreaming of the adventures the summer has in store.

Students. That’s what makes this time of year special. Now is the time we celebrate the accomplishments of our young people who have navigated the 13-year path from kindergarten to graduating high school senior.
