Editorial: A great achievement

Today we wish to call attention to a great achievement that has come to maturity in our midst.

Let us pause from the clamor of national and state politics, and from the perennial balancing of local needs versus local revenue. All of these are important topics, and all will get their share of attention.

Riverside Walter Reed Hospital recently opened its $55 million addition. That sort of money is the subject of hot debate among local governments weighing whether they can afford the improvements this sum would purchase.

Riverside Health System, in the meantime, authorized the expenditure in 2017, went to work, and last month unveiled its new look.

Those of us of older years can only marvel at the transformation that has taken place in our community.

In 1977, the long-sought hospital opened its doors. It was constructed on a site that was once wooded Today the 30-acre campus includes not only the 67-bed hospital but many offices and satellite operations.
