Editorial: 100 years and going strong

Two centenarians in our community will celebrate their birthdays on Saturday. We are proud to add our congratulations to the chorus.

The Gloucester Woman’s Club was organized 100 years ago for a specific purpose: to save the ancient home at Edgehill in Gloucester Court House. And it did. Edge Hill House offers a strikingly handsome gateway to the village.

Along the way, over generations of history and progress, the club has performed many, many other good works for the community, pitching in whenever a project calls— beautification, aiding the Allies, raising funds for one thing or another—and enjoying a century of pleasant social gatherings.

The present-day ladies who maintain and promote the old house will welcome visitors on Saturday. This is a wonderful opportunity to visit one of Gloucester County’s treasures. Its founders would be proud.
