Eden’s Garden offers local produce at Gloucester store

A Gloucester woman has opened a produce business with the goal of bringing local produce from the farm to the table. Heidi Chafik of Ark has been running Eden’s Garden for about two months, operating from a red, open-air building on the grounds of the Roadside Nursery on Route 17, south of Gloucester Court House.

The business specializes in produce, fresh dairy products, locally-made dry goods, preserves, soaps, coffee, eggs from Chafik’s own chickens and more. The owner also said she will soon be offering eggs from ducks she raises.

This business was formerly operated in Williamsburg under the name Heidi’s Homegrown and Organics from 2001-2009 but has been rebranded and expanded since Chafik’s move to Gloucester in January. She employs one other worker.

During annual visits to her grandfather’s Iowa farm, Chafik learned a great deal about the process of farming. This knowledge, the owner said, provides experience to draw from to better her business. Sh...
