DURWARD O. ANDERSON JR.

Durward O. Anderson Jr., 76, of Mathews, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov 7, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, on Jan. 7, 1941, son of the late Durward O. Anderson Sr. and Myrtle Gibson Anderson.  

He was a devoted and selfless husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is already deeply missed by us all.

He worked in Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. for over 40 years and served our country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Mathews.  

He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Anderson, and his three adoring children, Cheryl A. Ratliff (Scott), Beth A. Strangways (Gregg), and Jason Y. Anderson (Cheryl); his seven delightful grandchildren, Ava Elizabeth, Tinsley Grace, and Paris Alexandra Ratliff; Parker Reid and Patrick Scott Strangways; Whitney June and Kyle Robert Anderson; also, his sister, Betty Hodges; brothers, Gene and Wayne Anderson, and a nephew and four nieces, all of North Carolina.

The service will be conducted by the Rev. John Choi at Central United Methodist Church, Mathews, on Saturday, Nov 11, 2017, at 1 p.m.  Burial to follow at St. Paul Church cemetery, Susan, Va.

Heaven received a great soul today and many loved ones already there are rejoicing and welcoming him.
