Dukes win fifth in a row

The varsity Dukes notched their fifth consecutive win Friday with a 24-8 victory over Menchville in the rain-soaked Gloucester High School stadium.

The win puts the Dukes at 5-2 in the Peninsula District and 5-3 overall. After losing their first three games, including a 16-10 bow to York, Gloucester has posted wins over Kecoughtan, Denbigh, Bethel, Warwick and the Monarchs.

Cameron Walker scored first for Gloucester on a short run and kicker Andrew Coxe, who has been consistently accurate all season, hit his first of three extra points on the night. Coxe also hit a second quarter, 38-yard field goal to put the Dukes up, 10-0, at the half. 

Gloucester quarterback Isaiah Spencer ran the ball into the end zone in the third quarter and took the ball for an 87-yard jaunt in the final quarter for his second TD of the night. Spencer kept the ball on the ground for most of the wet game.
