Dukes thrash Heritage on diamond, 10-0

The Gloucester Dukes baseball team jumped out to an early lead versus Heritage and never looked back on the way to a 10-0 thrashing of the visiting Hurricanes on Tuesday.

This was the first home game of the season for the hometown nine, as Friday’s scheduled contest with Woodside was postponed due to rain. The Dukes are 2-0 on the young season and have been enjoying a flurry of hits in their first two games.

Their season opener, also against Woodside, saw the Dukes put up 13 runs on nine hits and cruise to a 13-6 victory. They would reignite these hot bats this Tuesday in support of a dominant pitching effort by Blake Taylor.

Taylor, a valuable returning player on a team that lost seven seniors to graduation is considered the ace of the staff by his coach, Gus Morande. “Blake is the main returning pitcher, so I guess you’d call him our ace at this point,” the head coach said.
