Dukes suffer tough week on the court

The Gloucester High School varsity boys’ basketball team faced a tough week, falling to Warwick, Nansemond River and Menchville.

The Dukes lost to Warwick, 72-24, last Thursday night on the road. The Warwick win was the first triumph for LaTasia Robinson, the first woman to coach a varsity boys’ basketball team in the Peninsula District.

Bryce Monroe was the top scorer for Gloucester with 14 points, followed by Jayden Ganzenmuller and Preston Prentiss with three points each and Watson and Welch with two apiece.

The Dukes also traveled Saturday to face Nansemond River, where they lost to the Warriors, 77-13. Monroe was again the top scorer for Gloucester with a total of eight points. Ganzenmuller and Prentiss also scored, earning three and two points, respectively.

Gloucester hosted Menchville Tuesday night at home, falling to the Monarchs, 74-36. Monroe was the top scorer for Gloucester with 13 points with Ganzenmuller following close behind with 12 points.
