Dukes shut out Warhill, 9-0, to start season

The Gloucester High School field hockey team started off its regular season Monday by shutting out the Warhill Lions, 9-0, at Wanner Stadium in Williamsburg.

Leading the Dukes in offensively was co-captain Channy Johnson who recorded a hat trick and two assists. Reese Miller also had a hat trick in the game. Kamryn McDonough, Mackenzie Reece and Kaylee Hall each scored once with Reece and McDonough recording one and two assists, respectively.

The nine goals were evenly divided in the three quarters. The Dukes managed 35 shots versus the Lions, who only managed one shot. The superior defense combined with the offensive attack led to the game ending early by mercy rule.

The Dukes are currently on the road as they traveled to Charlottesville to face St. Anne’s-Belfield yesterday and today they head to Albemarle County to face Albemarle High School.
