The Gloucester High School boys’ and girls’ varsity soccer teams faced Poquoson and Denbigh this past week with the boys posting all wins.
Boys
The Dukes traveled to Poquoson last Wednesday, March 26, to defeat the Islanders, 3-0. Gavin Blanks and Mason Schmidt each scored in the first half, assisted by Carter Thompson and Bryce Fisher, respectively. Corey Skay also scored a goal for the Dukes in the second half.
Gloucester was on the road again Tuesday night to face Denbigh, posting a 4-1 win over the Patriots. In the first half, Tyler Welch scored once with an assist by K.J. Wolford. Denbigh also scored during the first half.
The Dukes broke the tie in the second half with goals by Brody Sutton, Blanks and Kollin Wilson, which were assisted by Blanks, Sutton and Gavin Seitz, respectively.
Marek Barnett, Ryan Williams and goalkeeper Drew West all led the defensive effort for the Dukes during the matches.
These wins increase Gloucester’s season record to 6-0. The Dukes will host Smithfield on their home field tonight.
Girls
The Gloucester varsity girls split their matches this past week of game play with a loss to Poquoson, but a victory over Denbigh.
Suffering their first loss of the season, the Lady Dukes fell to the Poquoson Islanders, 3-0, last Wednesday, March 26, at home. Gloucester was the host team again Tuesday night and defeated the Denbigh Patriots, 9-1.
The Lady Dukes will be on the road tonight to face the Smithfield Packers.
