Dukes recapture district golf title

Kecoughtan won the final, and its second, golf match of the Peninsula District schedule on Sept. 28, but the 2011 district championship went to the golfers from Gloucester High School. It was the fourth consecutive district title for the Dukes.

The Warriors shot a team score of 153 over nine holes at the Woodlands to take the final PD match. Gloucester posted a 160 on the rain-shortened course for second place. Justin Fenn of Kecoughtan High won the outing at the Woodlands with 35 strokes. Kyle Rowe was first for the Dukes with a 38, followed by Zach Kounse with 40 and Hector Rios and senior Kyle Flippin with 41 strokes each.

The Dukes won seven of nine 2011 PD matches and finished the schedule with 2,809 strokes overall. Kecoughtan followed with 2,899 and Menchville was third with 3,019, with both teams joining Gloucester in the Eastern Region Tournament.
