Gloucester High School quarterback Aiden Thompson guided the Dukes to a 21-14 win over visiting Menchville on Monday. The victory was the first Peninsula District win for the Dukes and moved them to 2-2 overall.
Gloucester got on the board in the first quarter when Thompson found Mark Greenauer with a short scoring pass and the extra point by Jackson Lowther put the Dukes up 7-0. Gloucester could not get much going in the second quarter but allowed Menchville only a pair of field goals to make it 7-6 at the half.
The Monarchs took over in the third quarter, getting their only touchdown and successfully adding two points on the conversion to go up 14-7 heading into the fourth.
Thompson got back to work in the final period, capping a 10-play drive by taking the ball in from the seven-yard line. Lowther hit his second of three point-after attempts on the night to tie it up at 14-14.
