The Gloucester High School varsity boys’ soccer team posted a win and a tie in recent Peninsula District soccer action to move their record to 2-1-1. The Dukes beat Bethel, 3-1, at home on April 19 and tied Menchville, 1-1, on Friday.
The Dukes were relentless against the Bruins with the offense striking for three goals in a short span to shut down the opponents. Tyler Busic chipped by the Bethel keeper on a ball from Kyle Rowe to get Gloucester on the board.
Dustin Tietjen finished a cross pass from Matthew King to double the lead and Cody Weaver netted a free kick to make it 3-0. Bethel responded by scoring on a header but the Dukes tightened their defense and that would be all the Bruins would get.
Going up against the district rivals from Menchville, the Dukes stunned the home team when Brandon Splitt headed in a corner kick from Weaver midway through the first half. The lead was short-lived when the Monarchs also scored on a header just prior to the break.
