Dukes hold 90-stroke advantage over Peninsula District foes

Two matches into the schedule, Gloucester High School golfers have already built a 90-stroke lead over their nearest competitors from Menchville.

The Dukes had a great opening outing, as they hosted the Peninsula District at the Gloucester Country Club on Aug. 10 for the first time in several years. Gloucester turned in a team score of 301, well ahead of the Monarchs with 347 and Warwick with 373. The other seven competing teams had scores over 400. 

Cameron Baker led the Dukes on the home course with a 73, followed by Hunter Martin with 74 and Nathan Gross with 75. Trent Green and Davey Grimm each shot 79 and Lathan Burnett shot 88. 

It was a long day in the scorching heat at Williamsburg National last Thursday and the Gloucester scores were slightly higher. Martin, Gross and Green carded identical scores of 79 and Baker had an 82 for a team score of 319. Burnett shot 95 and Grimm shot 104.

The match scheduled for Tuesday at Kiskiack was cancelled due to a heat advisory....
