Dukes go 1-2 in recent action

The Gloucester High School varsity Dukes are at 3-2 in Peninsula District baseball standings after two recent losses and a win. The Dukes lost at Hampton, 6-4, on Monday in a game rescheduled from Saturday.

Gloucester’s Ethan Sabo and Jacob Houston were left stranded on base in the first inning while the Crabbers scored two in the second off a late throw and a base hit. Hampton struck for four more runs in the fourth with an error by the Dukes and a three-run home run.

Gloucester managed one run in the fourth when Houston knocked a double and scored. The Dukes battled back in the top of the seventh when Michael Clements and Houston got hits, Adam Baldwin reached on an error and a double by Josh Martin scored two runs. A sacrifice fly by Brian Belvin made it 6-4 but that’s where the comeback ended.

Clements was 2-for-4 in the loss with a run scored, and Houston was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored.
