Dukes fall to Woodside, 23-7

The Gloucester Dukes varsity football team is now three games into its season, and has yet to earn its first win.On Saturday, Gloucester was on the road facing Kecoughtan. GHS took an early lead in the first half but was unable to stop the Warriors’ comeback, falling 23-7. This loss comes after The Dukes’ Sept. 10 loss to the Bethel Bruins, 32-0.“We are getting closer to being able to play a full game together, slowly getting there. Hope to see us play better each week,” GHS varsity head coach John Scalf said.

The JV Dukes hosted Kecoughtan on Sept. 20 and dominated the visiting Warriors, winning 25-0. JV head coach Mike Shaffer pointed out standout performances from Makai Scatliffe, Zac Hartman, Jasen Robinson, Joe Foley and Jackson Taylor for their work on defense.

On offense, Shaffer gave nods to Evan Frazier, Jaiden Ganzenmuller, Aiden Napier, K.J. Woolford and Isaac Gardner who all added to the Dukes’ final score. Shaffer pointed out that Woolford kicked his first ever fiel...
