Dukes fall to Warriors in season opener

The Gloucester High School varsity Dukes fell, 47-21, to Kecoughtan to open the 2015 football season in Hampton last Thursday.

The Warriors scored the first of their seven touchdowns in the opening minutes of the contest. Keeping the ball on the ground, they seemed to have little trouble with the Gloucester defense and put up 19 first-half points while holding the Dukes scoreless.

Gloucester got on the board in the third quarter when freshman Joren Brown scored on a short run. Brown scored again in the fourth on another short run and junior Martaine Morris took off on a 59-yard scoring run for the Dukes’ final points. Morris carried the ball 13 times for 113 yards for GHS and Brown had eight carries for 104 yards. Morris also contributed three solo tackles and four tackle assists. 

Senior kicker Danny Wright, playing in his first football game, made all three of his point-after attempts for Gloucester.
