Dukes fall to Falcons, 16-10

Gloucester High School lost a rain-soaked football game to York High School, 16-10, at GHS on Friday night.

The first half was a defensive battle that remained scoreless until Gloucester quarterback Isaiah Spencer was sacked in his own end zone to put the Falcons up, 2-0, going into halftime. 

In the third quarter, the Dukes got on the board after a successful field goal attempt by Andrew Coxe made it 3-2. Also in the quarter, Gloucester running back Joren Brown took the ball for an 80-yard touchdown run to increase the Dukes’ lead to 10-2.

York responded by capping its next drive with a touchdown run and then passed for two points to notch the game at 10-10 just before the fourth quarter.

The Falcons got the only score of the final quarter of play with a long touchdown pass to make it 16-10 and held on for the win. The loss dropped Gloucester to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the Peninsula District.
