Dukes fall to 1-3 with loss to Denbigh

Gloucester dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the Peninsula District with a 35-14 loss to Denbigh at GHS on Friday.

The Dukes got the scoring started with a first-quarter, 55-yard run by freshman Joren Brown to make it 7-0. The Patriots were scoreless in the period but roared back in the second quarter with three touchdowns for a 20-7 advantage at the break.

After a scoreless third quarter, Denbigh added two more touchdowns in the fourth to make it 35-7. Gloucester managed a final score with a 19-yard TD run by Rashad Williams.

“We feel like we were there. Our defense played extremely well, although the scoreboard didn’t show it,” said GHS coach Brandon Kelley. “Our defense was rolling and our offense was behind. Last week, our offense was rolling and our defense was behind. We need to get to the point where we’re playing well on both sides of the ball.”
