Dukes edge Patriots, 34-33, get first win

The Gloucester High School varsity football team notched its first win this year, overcoming a slew of turnovers to narrowly defeat Denbigh under the Thursday night lights of Todd Stadium, 34-33.

A low-scoring first half gave way to a second half shootout, as the Dukes rallied from a six-point deficit with less than a minute to go to beat the Patriots by a single point.

Joren Brown put up the first points of the game with a rushing touchdown to give the Dukes a 7-0 lead. Denbigh came back through the air to tie the score at 7-7, a score that held until the second half.

The turnover bug reared its head again for Gloucester, as several costly fumbles killed drives for the Dukes. In total, the Dukes fumbled the ball nine times, with seven recovered by Denbigh.
