Dukes compile 13-7 season record in baseball

The Gloucester High School varsity baseball team finished its 2018 season with a 13-7 overall; 13-5 in the Peninsula District, according to head coach Gus Morande.

The Dukes finished in fifth place in the region. Morande was assisted in his coaching duties by Dorsey Hooker and Dave Mathews.

This year’s team saw three All-Region selections—outfielder Reese Oden and shortstop Cash Watkins received first-team honors, while catcher Carter Miller was named second team All-Region.

Reese compiled a .415 batting average. He had 22 hits, including two doubles, 17 RBIs, drew five walks and had six stolen bases. Cash batted .409 (18 hits, four doubles, 20 walks and was hit by a pitch six times; 7-2 on the mound with a 1.96 ERA). Carter batted .373 (19 hits, five doubles, two home runs and 19 RBIs).
