Dukes beat Menchville, 24-9, improve to 4-3

The Gloucester High School varsity football team improved to 4-3 with a 24-9 win at Menchville on Saturday in a game riddled by mistakes and turnovers on both sides.

“We made a lot of mistakes. We were just really fortunate that the team we were playing made a lot of mistakes, too. We just kept up that whole team philosophy,” said GHS head coach Brandon Kelley. 

In the first quarter, the Dukes got on the board first with a field goal from Tanner Griffith before the Monarchs secured the first of three safeties in the game, leaving the score at 3-2. Gloucester claimed the next safety for the only second quarter points to put the halftime score at 5-2.

The Dukes continued to struggle offensively in the third quarter and Menchville got the first touchdown of the game to go up 9-5.
