Duke wrestlers win PD opener

Gloucester High School wrestlers opened the Peninsula District schedule with a 51-25 victory over Menchville on the GHS mats last Thursday. The Dukes won six matchups, including five by pins, and benefited from three Menchville forfeits.

Matt Favazzo got things started for Gloucester at 103 pounds, pinning his opponent in a six-minute contest. Seth Ballard at 119 won a hard-fought 8-3 decision for the Dukes and Nick Bogue at 125 put his opponent to the mat in 1:37. Gil Owens dominated at 135 with a pin of his opposing Monarch in 48 seconds.

Travis Mangrum at 140 also recorded a pin for the Dukes in 2:11 and John Walker at 152 pinned his opponent in the same time. Menchville forfeits went to Shawn Milks at 145, Dion Harris at 215 and Brenden Lenhardt at 285.
