Duke wrestlers grab Ram Cup after tri-match wins

Gloucester High School wrestlers opened the 2013-2014 season with a pair of victories in a tri-match at Kecoughtan on Dec. 4. The Dukes beat Phoebus, 45-24, and their hosts, 44-18. Gloucester also won the annual Ram Cup Invitational on Saturday. 

 

Gloucester grapplers getting wins over their Phoebus opponents included Matt Favazzo at 113 with a pin in 3:07, Anthony Monahan at 120 with a technical fall, Jordan Albright at 138 with a pin in 35 seconds and JohnNathan Walker at 152 with a pin in 40 seconds.

 

Also, Jerry Woodlief at 285 won with a major decision, Levi Reeves at 195 and Devon Pullen at 170 won by decision and A.J. Ransom at 145 Russell Simpson at 160 received forfeits.

 

Winning by decision against Kecoughtan were Favazzo, Hunter Owens at 126, Walker and Reeves at 182. Ransom and Pullen won by major decisions and Woodlief at 220 got a pin in 1:11. Forfeits went to Becca Smith at 106, Joey Alvarado at 195 and Thomas Clifton at 285.
