The Gloucester High School boys’ cross country team came out on top at last Wednesday’s meet against Menchville with a team score of 24. The Lady Dukes did not fare as well, losing to Menchville with a team score of 34.
Tanner Baker and Conner O’Beirne came in first for Gloucester each with a time of 17:42. Next for Gloucester was Alec Danile with a time of 18:13, followed by Joel Junker with a time of 18:32 and Tyler Hicks finishing at 19:39.
Josh Pinder (JV) ran a 19:41, followed by Owen Hogge (20:00), Carter Hill (20:23), Leo Berry (20:35), Rylan Allcorn (20:47), Hayden Bower (20:55), Ian Waters (20:56), Matt Slater (JV) (21:01), Braden Enoch (21:37), Joel Taylor (22:57), Brandon Carucci (23:27), Jacob Paulin (24:37), Pace Petterson (25:41) and Devin Lowney (27:11).
First for the Lady Dukes was Mya Baker in21:43. Next for GHS was Emily Shipe with a time of 23:38, followed by Cori Morgan with a time of 23:31 and Kaylee Hall (JV) finishing at 24:39. Abigail Junker (JV) ran a 24:49, followed by Cody Brown (24:51), Layla Angels (25:14), Caitlyn Shelton (26:00) and Lilly Bane (26:32).
Coach Lindsay Newell said that the racing conditions were far from perfect and that the course was very wet and even slippery in some places. Though a few runners took some falls, they got up and finished strong.
