Duke runners beat Hampton, Warwick at home

The Gloucester High School cross country team opened the Peninsula District schedule by beating both Hampton and Warwick in a tri-meet on Sept. 16 at Beaverdam Park.

Freshman Ruby Williams led the Gloucester girls and won the girls’ race in 22:43. GHS coach John Perrin said he gave his usual top five female runners a rest after the Newport News Invitational. “I needed runners six and on to step up because they will be needed during post-season,” Perrin said.

Also placing for the Dukes were Mia Robinson at second, Brooke Cheatham at fourth, Allison Kladler at fifth, Katherine Saunders at seventh and Lindsay Rudisill at eighth.

Freshman Aaron Shipe continues to lead the Gloucester boys, winning his race in 18:12. The Dukes swept the top eight places, with Michael Chaffin, Derek Drummond, Andrew Wible, Logan Touchstone, Joseph Lineberry, Noah Bondurant and Colton Spence finishing second through eighth.
