Duke grapplers post two PD wins

Gloucester High School wrestlers added two more Peninsula District wins in a tri-match at GHS on Dec. 15 but continued to struggle against Southside teams in matches at Granby High School on Dec. 4.

The Dukes dominated Heritage, 72-6, last week, dropping only one match. Gloucester wrestlers tallied eight pins, coming from Matt Favazzo at 103 in 41 seconds, Axton Kadel at 112 in 19 seconds, Xzavier Darden at 130 in 1:34, Gil Owens at 140 in 57 seconds, John Walker at 152 in 23 seconds, Jerry Woodlief at 171 in 1:11, Dion Harris at 215 in 3:14 and heavyweight Brenden Lenhardt in 1:42.

Nick Bogue at 125 won a 16-3 major decision and Cameron Lanham at 119 won a 12-11 decision. Three forfeits went to Duke wrestlers, and Ed Landers at 189 was pinned by Andrew Booker of Heritage in 3:51.

Gloucester grapplers also beat Warwick, 46-33, on Dec. 15, with pins from Favazzo in 2:49, Kadel in 26 seconds, Lanham in 3:36, Bogue in 34 seconds, Tyler Wood at 160 in 5:54, Harris in 2:44 and Lenha...
