Duke golfers hold big lead in district

Gloucester High School golfers were scheduled to wrap up the Peninsula District schedule yesterday at the Woodlands where they were expected to be presented with the 2011 PD trophy. The Dukes bested second-place Kecoughtan, 323-342, on Sept. 21 at Deer Run to stretch their first-place lead to 97 strokes going into yesterday’s final match.

Zack Robb led the Gloucester golfers at Deer Run with a 77, followed by Kyle Rowe with a 79, Hector Rios with an 83 and Kyle Flippin and Tyler Foster with scores of 84 each. Robb has the best average in the PD and is joined in the list of top 10 district golfers by teammates Zach Kounse, Rowe and Flippin.

After playing the Woodlands course yesterday, the Dukes are preparing for the Eastern Region Tournament slated to begin Monday at Bide-A-Wee in Portsmouth.
