Dual primary to be held in Gloucester

Gloucester voters will have a choice of party primaries when they head to the ballot box on June 11. Residents in Mathews will only have one primary—the Democratic Party races for lieutenant governor and attorney general—that day.

In Gloucester’s Republican primary, incumbent Louise Theberge will face off with challenger John Meyer Jr. for the party’s nomination for at-large member on the county board of supervisors for the Nov. 5 general election.

Both counties will hold a Democratic primary to nominate that party’s candidate for the two contested statewide races.

In the lieutenant governor’s primary race, state Sen. Ralph Northam (D-Norfolk) is running against former White House chief technology officer Aneesh Chopra of Arlington. Northam represents Mathews County in the state legislature.
