DR. WILLIAM BRUCE YOWELL

Dr. William Bruce Yowell, 92, of Gloucester, formerly of New Port Richey, Fla., died Jan. 6, 2012 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

Dr. Yowell graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1938, University of Maryland, 1942 and George Washington Medical School, 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1948.

He was a member of the D.C. Medical Society, Smith-Reed-Russell Society and Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Fraternity. Dr. Yowell was a physician with D.C. Veterans Administration, D.C. Health Department, and was a General Surgeon at Sibley Hospital.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and all things about nature. Dr. Yowell was a kind, compassionate man who cared deeply for his family, patients and friends and he will remain in their hearts forever.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Regna Yowell.

He is survived by children, Carol "Sue" Barber, her husband Herbert and two children; William "Bruce" Yowell Jr. and his five children; Sydney Whitlock and her two children; Charles H. Yowell, his wife Becky and three children; Betty J. Cumers and her two children; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family received friends on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, from 2-3:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Inurnment service will be held later at Veterans National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.
