DR. REV. LEWIS MCPHERREN

Dr. Rev. Lewis McPherren, 88, of Mathews County, Va., finished his earthly course and began his eternal journey Wednesday, June 10, 2015.

Lewis began his pilgrimage on June 8, 1927 in Kansas City, Kan. He was a former Marine and retired reverend, earning his Bachelor of Divinity at Phillips University and Honorary Doctorate from Lynchburg College. Lewis served many congregations across the country from the East Coast to the Mid-West, also serving as Regional Minister, Disciples of Christ, in Virginia.

He was also a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League, Mathews Ruritan Club, Mathews Ministerial Association, and many other organizations throughout his life.

Lewis was predeceased by his parents, George William and Inez Franklin McPherren; his wife, Elizabeth Hope Peeler McPherren; his sisters, Helen Irene McPherren, Betty Jane Polly and Bonnie Jean Henderson.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Johnson McPherren; his children, Timothy McPherren and wife Janet of Kansas, Michael McPherren of Texas, Patrick McPherren and wife Sherry of Colorado, Kathleen (Kat) Resciniti and husband Ralph, Tammy Ellis and husband Jim of Virginia, Tracy Gaskins and husband Mike of Virginia; a sister, Alice Isabell Comstock of Kansas; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, 160 Main Street, Mathews, Va. 23109. The family will receive friends and fellowship immediately following the service at Westville Baptist Church (across from funeral home), Mathews. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kan. 66675 or to Semper Fi Fund, 825 College Blvd., Suite 102, PMB 609, Oceanside, Calif. 92057.
