DOZIER LEE SUTTON

In this world there are angels who walk among us. On Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, God took one of them home. Dozier Lee Sutton of Newport News, left this earth far too soon for those who knew and loved him.

Lee was born in Newport News on Nov. 8, 1946. He graduated from Stonington High School, Pawcatuck, Connecticut, in 1965 and from the University of Tennessee in 1969 with a degree in architecture. After graduation he was inducted into the Army where he served in the Military Police Corps. He retired from Civil Service with TRADOC at Fort Eustis.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Dozier and Marion Sutton, and leaves behind his best friend and sister, Tommie Sutton Thompson of Gloucester and her husband Hugh; and his brother, Mark Wayne Sutton of Longview, Washington, and his wife Merry Beth. He also leaves behind his nieces, Kelly Dalton (Justin), Alex Liotta (Chris), Samantha George (fiancé Eric Smith); nephews, Will Wills (Emily), and Jared and Cassidy Sutton. Lee played a vital role in his family and leaves a host of great-nieces and -nephews, Savannah George, Jewels, Eli, and Raia Liotta and Cannon Bogert, Rilee and Bella Dalton, and Kayla and Ethan Wills.

Lee had such a unique quality of seeing beauty in everything around him. And when you were with him, he shared that vision in such a way that you caught a glimpse of that beauty too.

Heaven’s gain is our loss but we will cherish his memory always.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in Lee’s honor, please support the local Peninsula Rescue Mission at P.O. Box 377, Newport News, Va. 23607 or Hilton Baptist Church, 101 Main Street, Newport News, Va. 23601.
