Dorothy Louise Sears South, age 97, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Frank South, and her daughter, Anita Wilson Wrightson.

Dorothy became a member of Salem U.M. Church in 1939 and was the church custodian for 43 years. She was also treasurer of Wesley Fellowship Class of Salem Church for over 30 years, as well as a member of Piankatank Community League for over 50 years. 

She is survived by her children, Richard Franklin South (Jean), Willie Ernest South (Nona); sister, Elsie Wilson; granddaughter, Connie South Birdsall (David); grandsons, Bobby Wilson (Cindy), Davis Wilson (Cathy); her great-granddaughters, Jessica Conner (Forrest), Janice Whitley (Keith); great-great-grandchildren, Olivia Grace Whitley and Brenton David Conner, and loving caretaker, Theresa Eason.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, in Salem United Methodist Church; interment following at church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
