Dorothy Fagan takes 1st place in Richmond show

Local painter Dorothy Fagan of Hallieford was awarded first place at Crossroads Art Center’s All Media Show, which opened last week in Richmond.

Juror Francis Thompson selected Fagan’s multi-canvas painting, “Coming to the River: The Crossing,” from more than 173 entries, citing mastery of form, color, and medium.

The 5’x10’ eight-canvas painting was exhibited earlier this fall during Milan Fashion Week at MADS Gallery in Milan, Italy.

“Fagan expresses the concept of the MADS DressME exhibition, as she interprets art as a way of ‘wrapping ourselves in the colors of the light.’ This light of which the artist speaks is visible in all her creations, a light that generates a mystical glow,” curator Georgia Massari said.

“I felt especially drawn to accept the invitation to exhibit in DressME, as I create silky scarves, cocoon wraps and ruanas from my paintings. Being a part of Milan Fashion Week is a dream come true to integrate my paintings with my art to wear,” Fagan said.
