DOROTHY ELIZABETH ANDERSON

Dorothy Elizabeth Anderson, age 99, entered the gates of Heaven dancing and rejoicing with her Lord and Savior on Nov. 20, 2015 in Crystal Lake, Ill.

Born March 27, 1916 in Annapolis, Md., she was the daughter of William and Mabel (Paxton) Chappell. In 1934, she married the love of her life, Jack Anderson, and they lived in Washington, D.C., Annapolis, and Gloucester, Va. Since 2007 she lived in Illinois.

Dorothy was an avid bridge player, crossword solver, bowler, dancer, and led exercise classes in her pool up through her 88th birthday. She enjoyed crocheting and lovingly made many quilts for her children and grandchildren. 

Preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, she is survived by her daughters, Carole (Wayne) Gates of Gloucester, and Arden (Bob) Spooner of Lake in the Hills, Ill.; her grandchildren, Mark (Marjo) Holthaus, David Holthaus, Jennifer Sekula and her husband (Kyle Rice), Rob (Claudia) Spooner, and Rick (Whitney) Spooner; and great-grandchildren, Scott, Catherine, Skyler, Meghan, Cameron, Morgan, Samantha, and Sophia.

A memorial service to celebrate Dorothy’s life was held Sunday, Nov. 29 at Newington Baptist Church, Gloucester. 

Donations in her memory may be given to Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.
