DOROTHY “DOT” MAE RHODES ROGERS

Dorothy “Dot” Mae Rhodes Rogers, 95, of Hayes, passed away June 7, 2018, at home with family by her side.

Dot was born April 22, 1923 in Spencer, Iowa to William Harrison Rhodes and Ethel May Legere Rhodes.  She was a war bride and married Delmer M. Rogers, a Navy tail gunner and they set out on a lifelong journey that stretched across many continents serving first as a Navy wife and later serving as a volunteer missionary spreading the gospel in Zambia, Uganda, Thailand and even going into China.

Dot was a bookkeeper by trade and shared her skills wherever she went, and lived by one of her favorite verses, Matthew 28:19, “Having gone, then, disciple all the nations.” In later years, Dot enjoyed her church family at Union Baptist Church, teaching many Bible studies in the home and volunteering in the Gloucester Literacy Program.  She was a kind, happy, loving woman who never met a stranger. We will miss her sweet spirit and joyful smile.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, and siblings, Eleanor Warren, Norma Warnock, Marjorie Sanders, Marjean Ohma, Carol Maze, Lester L. Rhodes, the Rev. Darrel A. Rhodes, Arthur Rhodes and Jay W. Rhodes.

Dot is survived by her daughter, Jaqueline Anne Rogers King (Bill); two sons, Larry Neal Rogers and Kenneth McMains Rogers; brother, Duane L. Rhodes; eight grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

A funeral service officiated by the Rev. Richard Whiteheart was held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Union Baptist Church, 9254 Guinea Road, Hayes, Va. 23072.  Private interment in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the church.

In memory of Dot, the family suggests contributions be made to the International Mission Board, SBC, P.O. Box 6767, Richmond, Va. 23230-0767.
