DOROTHY DIGGS WHITE

Dorothy Diggs White, 97, passed away April 16, 2015 at Riverside Convalescent Center-Mathews.

Mrs. White was a native of Mathews, graduating from New Point High School in 1935. She was a member of Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church and the Cobbs Creek Homemakers. In 1982, she retired from the Mathews Public Schools.

She was a wonderful woman who lived a rich, long life filled with challenges, love and adventure. She was born at the beginning of the 20th century, before radio and televisions were commonplace, and she lived to see the existence of internet and so much more. Her love for her family and her love of life showed in many ways and she found joy in the simplest things. We will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Austenia Diggs; husband, James White, and daughters, Dianne White and Parthenia White Lewis.

She is survived by her daughter, Vickie Sessler; grandchildren, Pamela Winder, Gaynor Callis, Robert Lewis, David Carmean and Karen Jarman; great-grandchildren, Melanie Williams, Jennifer Williamson, Nichole Byrd, Ashley Callis, Victoria Callis, Thomas and Elizabeth Carmean, and Brandon and Rylee Jarman; great-great-grandchildren, Peyton Spencer, Sydney Latimer, Kai Byrd, Emerson and Harper Williams, and sons-in-law, Byron Carmean and wife Jean, and Gerald Lewis and wife Beth.

A Celebration of Life service conducted by the Rev. Les Goode will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 2-3 at the church on Sunday.

In memory of our beloved Dorothy, gifts may be given to Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 125, Cobbs Creek, Va. 23035 or Mathews Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 72, Mathews, Va. 23109.
