DONALD R. CHAMPION

Donald Champion, 63, of Gloucester, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2013, from laryngeal cancer.

Donald was a Vietnam veteran and a master electrician who trained through the IBEW Local 1340 apprentice program. He retired from York County in 2010.

Donald was preceded in death by his grandmother, Annie Champion; his mother, Willa Hester; his father, Harold Champion, and a special cousin, Carolyn Butler.

Donald was survived by his high school sweetheart and bride of 41 years, Nickie. He leaves his brother, Harold (Barbara) Champion; his step-father, Bill Hester; his step-sister, Peggy (Eddie) Cleveland, and his devoted aunt, Lorena (Frank) Lascola. Donald’s family also included his father-in-law, Bob Coultrip; brothers-in-law, Bobby (Vicky) Coultrip, Eric (Rosalie) Coultrip, and Kurt Coultrip, as well as five nieces and nephews and five great-nieces and -nephews. Donald will be missed by his friend and caregiver, Christina Green.

Donald lived a happy life and wanted for very little.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Gloucester Park Partners, 6467 Main Street, Gloucester, Va. 23061 or your favorite church or charity.

A visitation was held on Saturday, May 25, from 6-7 p.m. at Amory Funeral Home in Grafton. A private service will be held at a future time.
