Donald Gwynne Hernandez Sr. (Donnie) of Onemo, Va., went to his Heavenly home on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012; at his side were his friend and best buddy, “Little Man,” his daughter, Debbie and his sister, Aileen.

Donnie was employed by Allied Towing and retired in 2001 as Chief Engineer with Express Marine Inc. His last few years of part-time employment was with the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry, which brought him many hours of enjoyment and a host of new friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Elsie Hernandez, and a brother, David.

He is survived by his daughter, Debbie McKinney and son, Donnie Jr.; three granddaughters, Amber Mountford, Tori McKinney and Krystal Flippo; one brother, Richard C. Hernandez (R.C.) and wife Joyce; one sister, Aileen Hernandez; a companion and close friend, Susan Crowder, and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Va. A funeral service was held on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with burial to follow in Pear Tree Cemetery, Onemo.
