Dollar General application denied

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 on Monday to deny an application for a conditional use permit by Rhetson Companies LLC to place a 10,640-square-foot Dollar General store at the intersection of Routes 198 and 3 in the Cobbs Creek area of the county. Dissenting on the vote to deny were chairman Mike Rowe and Amy Dubois.

In his report, Planning and Zoning Director Thomas Jenkins said that the parcel was rezoned from Rural to Business in July 2021 at Rhetson’s request, and a conceptual plan showing four retail stores was submitted.
