DOJ sexual discrimination investigation continues

Records of any past sexual discrimination complaints against Gloucester County Public Schools are among the extensive documents now being requested in the federal investigation into a sexual discrimination complaint lodged against GCPS in February by a Gloucester High School student.

The investigation stems from a policy adopted by the Gloucester School Board after the student, who is biologically a female but self-identifies as a male, requested to use the boys’ restrooms at GHS.

After hearing from the public on the matter, the board adopted a policy limiting the use of men’s and women’s facilities to biological gender, with a provision for alternative, private facilities for students with gender identity issues.

The board also announced it would be adding single-stall, unisex bathrooms at GHS and would be taking measures to provide for more privacy in existing student restrooms.
